19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev secured his first championship for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult season, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court after spring of the previous year.

Victory also means he has won twenty-one championships at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to win a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in that event in the past months.

The player's counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to wonder if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play assertively, backed up by an better serve.

He recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent saved 4 initial break points in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he clinched victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after a lengthy match.
